What a difference a week makes!

Well, what a week we have had.
Here we are just chilling and enjoying Easter a week ago today. We went to bed and said well, in 4 or 5 weeks at the most we will have a baby.....
Monday night everything changed. I am not sure how many details are too gory, but let's just say after enjoying a fabulous bowl salad from Freebirds I stood up and knew there was a problem. I was having a partial abruption, google it if you want to know more or I can tell you call me. We initially called the Dr.'s office and then decided we needed to just head on it. My Dr. is so great that they were already calling back as we were walking out the door and confirmed we were right. We went to the hospital very quickly, Michael's dream of using the flashers and driving too fast came true.
Our nurse Emily was awesome, she was very calm and reassuring and even pretended we might not have a baby that night, but I knew and so did she. Dr. Nokleberg came in and told us so we called the family and they called our friends and everyone settled in. I will admit I was praying for a girl at this point worrying about a wimpy white boy 36 weeker, but I was wrong and it turned out fine. Dr. N delivered a baby while I was getting my epidural checking on us every few minutes. About 11:30 they wheeled me in to the OR and at 11:52 Avery Blake was born. He did great and screamed his head off for a good long while clearing out those lungs for mommy. NICU was there and gave him the okay to stay with us, I was so relieved.

We are settling in to life as a family of 3. It has been so fun, even though I had to really adjust to him TOTALLY not following the plan. I am feeling really great, except for my tear ducts, there is for sure something wrong with them. My Mom left a few minutes ago and Michael's is on her way, we are so thankful for great family and friend support. I love seeing all the visitors and introducing him to our friends and it meant the world to me that so many of our friends and family dropped everything to come sit in a waiting room at 10pm on a Monday night, half of them didn't even get to see Avery but I know their prayers were around us as we waited and then safely made it through surgery.
We are going to the pediatrician tomorrow for a weight and jaundice check, so I will try and post again then with more pictures and an update.
We love you all, thanks so much for the comments, I was loving hearing what you all had to say!
Abbe, Michael AND Avery

Isn't he sooo precious. I'll try to keep the pictures coming. For my work friends-this is our first photo, Michael took it after the lady left-you have never seen such hideous pictures in all your life I have been right telling all those parents to just leave without them! :)

Our Nursery is Spot On!

Linde has been hard at work and the nursery is looking so fabulous. I knew it would be, but it is still exceeding my wildest expectations. I have to say that Linde is a creative genius, almost as soon as we told her about Wee she thought of going Giraffe for the nursery. It cracks me up that after she had it all planned out giraffe stuff is popping up literally everywhere. I am so proud of my sister that she thought of it first! I am loving it. The nursery will be closing any day now so that she can make the girl and boy touches like a cute ceiling, painting the dresser and other surprises! I must admit it kind of makes me want to know! But, we have waited this long I am not ruining it now.

Besides all Linde's fabulous things, my favorite part of the nursery is this dresser. It belonged to my Papa and Grandma Jo (why I am Abbe Jo). My Papa meant the world to me and I can't wait to meet my Grandma Jo when we get to heaven. I love that a piece of them will be with our little one as he or she grows up. In case you are worried, they would love Linde painting the dresser. My Grandma is where a lot of Linde's creative genes come from, she was an artist as well as an amazing seamstress and had tons of fun painting and redoing their house all the time when Mom and Aunt Susan Jo were little.

Also, the polls are open. You can vote on whether wee is a he or a she. I can honestly say I have no idea. Even when I dream about the baby it is genderless, I have NO maternal instinct, but I can't wait to see what you guys think.

Have a great day!

Make New Friends but Keep the Old

Sorry I have been a terrible blogger lately....

Last Sunday night Michael and I got to have dinner with 2 of my best friends from the good ol days at REL! It was so so fun to be with Abby and Kimmy and get to me some of their friends Ellen and Kim's new friend, Slim Jim. :)

Being with them just made me so thankful for all the great friendships Michael and I have. I love that the girls know more about Michael than I do in some ways, they have gone to school with him since Kindergarten, and I am SO glad that those are the girls I met and connected with when my world was crushed with a move to the sticks almost 15 years ago. Michael and I always talk about how we have been truly blessed with great friends in the big stages of our lives together, high school, college and now.
Thanks to all our great friends who are always there for us, we love you!

Here's a blast from the past Senior Week '98 picture. I can't believe we will be having our reunion this summer. Crazy!!

Confession

In just a few short weeks we are going to have one of these.... I am officially panicking.
While it is so fun to think about so much of this new adventure I am also terrified. I don't know how to be a mom. Everyone is constantly telling us that our lives our going to be totally different and turned upside down in ways we can't understand until we get there. This doesn't fly with type A me. I need info. I need an instruction manual. I need details. I need to plan. I know that I theoretically have a leg up because I work with babies, but being a nurse and being a mommy are 2 very different things I am not feeling like I have some big advantage.
Disclaimer-Please know that I am so excited and that I am so grateful for the privilege to be a parent, I know that some people are unable to get to this place and I am not complaining. I promise. I just had to get this off my chest so that hopefully I can move on, because one way or another in a few short weeks, Wee will be here!

Linde's Long Awaited Guest Post

Here it is, enjoy!!!!

Better Late Than Never

I guess this is why I’m not really blog worthy…it takes me too long to post.

Get ready, here is the story,

So, a few Fridays ago Jeff and I planned to meet some of our besties, Randy and Allison for dinner at Matts, yum! I was showered and doing a couple last minute things to get ready. I was mostly contemplating whether to blow-dry the hair and put on make up, thank goodness I did. Jeff came over and them Abbe called (all part of the plan) and asked me to run by her house and put some baby clothes inside so Michael wouldn’t see them. I knew at this point that I didn’t want to hunt for the key to her house to put them inside, but told her I would take care of it (and this is where I start to ruin the plan a bit). So, I tell Jeff we should head to Ab’s house and then on to dinner. We get to Abbe’s and I jump out of the car and grab the package off the porch and head back to Jeff’s car. (This is funny, I even remember thinking the package looked like it was in Abbe’s handwriting) I turned to Jeff who then says he needs to go in to the bathroom. I answer that I don’t have my keys and skip on to the car. Jeff says he freaks out inside because we are now officially outside of the plan…oppppsss. I just remember thinking he should hold it that we were so close to dinner. He tried to say sweet things outside about us hanging out when I used to live with Abbe and Michael, but I was cold so I hopped in the car. And, Jeff is sweet, but not mushy, so I wasn’t buying it. As soon as we got in the car, Jeff looked like he was going to cry. I could not figure out why, he is rarely emotional. He also starts stuttering like crazy, I am really confused, but trying to get to the bottom of it. Then he starts talking about how we haven’t talked about marriage because we have never had anything tangible to follow it up, and then he says, “but now I have something tangible.” He said he thought I would get it when he said that, but I was still so focused on him being upset that it went right over my head. Then he pulled the ring box out of his pocket and I don’t remember much more. He said we needed to get out of the car for the next part, but I couldn’t move. So, he came around to my side, opened the door, unbuckled my seat belt and stood me up. Then when he got on his knee, I sat on it… I guess I get a little clingy when I’m emotional. Then he asked and said he looked up just in time to see me nod yes. I always imagined saying such a cute answer, like “absolutely” but only managed a nod. Oh well. Then he asked if I was ready to see the ring, I nodded no. I needed another minute to catch my breath. Eventually, he said the ring was awesome and it was time to look. He opened the box and I snatched out the ring and put it on my finger. I asked him later if he put the ring on me, and he said he didn’t have a chance…hehehhe. After that, we went to a huge party with all our families and friends. Wahoooo. And there you have it.

P.S. If you read this you are a trooper, I am a look at the pictures kind of reader.

And as a treat for guest posting, Abbe has allowed me to reveal the sex of her precious baby……….it is a …………suckas! My lips are sealed. But, I do want to hear what all of you think the baby is.

Have a good one!
